CEDERBAUM TEACHES LAW AT NORWALK COMMUNITY COLLEGEGene Cederbaum, a Westport attorney with the firm of Wake, See, Dimes, Bryniczka & Bloom in Westport, continues serving on the Adjunct Faculty of Norwalk Community College on Richards Avenue in Norwalk. Mr. Cederbaum teaches a basic, two semester course in business law to students studying for Associate Degrees in accounting, management, marketing and other disciplines. In the first half of the course students learn about the federal and state court systems, constitutional law principles including the right to privacy, the interstate commerce clause and the Bill of Rights. They then move on to study contract and agency law. The second section continues with consideration specific legal disciplines such as employment law, the 1964 Civil Rights Act and other laws concerning discrimination, securities laws and regulations and the Uniform Commercial Code. "I have focused on what I believe is necessary for students to know both in their personal lives and in their careers," Mr. Cederbaum said. "I stress basic principles with the aim of giving students a framework for understanding each area studied. It is my goal for students to walk away from the course able to identify and understand the significance of legal issues which arise both in and out of their workplaces and then seek guidance from supervisors, corporate legal departments or private advisors." Mr. Cederbaum continued. "I am repeatedly impressed with the dedication of my students to what is a very strenuous curriculum. Many work during the day, have significant others and/or families to care for and yet take the time and put in the effort to continue their studies at night." Mr. Cederbaum has practiced in Westport for more than 30 years. He joined Wake, See Dimes, Bryniczka & Bloom in 2000. Prior to that he was a principal in the law firm of Goldstein and Peck, P.C. in Bridgeport. His areas of specialty include business law, municipal law (where he has represented Westport, Easton and Wilton), real estate transactions and civil litigation. He has formed special taxing districts for residents of private roads. Mr. Cederbaum has served on the RTM and the Board of Education and is a past President of the Westport Bar Association. |
