Wills & Trusts

Connecticut Will and Trust Attorneys

A will is the legal expression of one’s wishes, particularly as to the disposition of his or her property, to take effect after death. A will also allows individuals to name an executor for the administration of their estate and a guardian for their minor children. An effective estate plan not only insures an individual’s wishes are documented but also utilizes tax saving measures, where possible, to reduce or eliminate estate taxes payable on death. If an individual dies without a will, state statutes dictate the manner in which his or her assets are to be distributed among his or her heirs. At the law firm of Wake, See, Dimes, Bryniczka and Bloom, we have extensive experience in drafting both complex and simple estate plans that utilize the tax laws to protect assets from taxation, where possible, and record an individual’s wishes.

In addition to drafting wills, our lawyers prepare trust instruments, both revocable and irrevocable, when this is appropriate for clients. Regardless of wealth, trusts can play an important role in an estate plan, since they have many uses, such as providing for the management of assets for minor children, reducing or deferring estate taxes and assuring that the individual’s assets ultimately pass to his or her intended beneficiaries. Our law firm has been helping people plan for the future through wills and trusts since 1946. We also make sure that our clients plan for their future incapacity, drawing up documents such as:

  • Powers of attorney that name an individual to act on their behalf in the event of incapacity
  • Health care directives, including living wills, that document their wishes for medical treatment and end-of-life-care
  • HIPAA authorizations to allow third parties that they designate to review their medical records
  • A custody of remains that documents their wishes with regard to the disposition of their remains
  • A designation of conservator to insure their designee is appointed by the court in the event of incapacity

We also establish family limited partnerships and limited liability companies (LLCs) that can work to preserve assets such as businesses, farms, or other income-generating property. We have many years of experience developing all types of irrevocable living trusts that preserve assets and minimize tax liability.
